This year we have 2 kinds of organic, pasture-raised turkeys — a heritage breed called White Hollands (about 85) and a smaller number (about 25) of the Broad Breasted Whites (in photo) that we raised last year.
White Hollands are a very old and now rare variety that originated in Mexico, were brought to Europe in the 1500’s, first documented in England in the early 1800’s, and accepted into the U.S. Standard of Perfection in 1874. Because of their wide breasts and short legs they were an important commercial bird in this country in the early part of the twentieth century. We thought it would be fun to offer you what our forebears enjoyed for Thanksgiving. The White Hollands we predict will dress out to 13 or 14 lbs max. The BBW’s will be 17 to 24 lbs. Price per lb remains at $6.00.
To reserve, please email us with the approximate weight you desire and your contact info and supply us with a $50 deposit. You can do the deposit and contact info here:
We process the birds ourselves here on the farm in October, as humanely as possible, and store them in the freezer until pick up time. The actual weight of your bird and balance due is determined when you come to collect it.
