White Gate Farm

Early Summer Pasta


  • 1 bunch asparagus
  • 4 Scallions, chopped
  • 1 cup chopped snap pea pods
  • Kohlrabi, peeled and cut into matchsticks
  • Several garlic scapes, thinly sliced
  • 3 T pesto sauce, optional
  • 1 lb penne pasta
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp. hot pepper flakes
  • 1/2 tsp salt or more to taste
  • Parmesan cheese, freshly grated


Chop and briefly steam asparagus, kohlrabi and pea pods. Put pasta on to boil. While it is cooking, warm olive oil in deep pan. Sautée garlic scapes, pepper flakes and onions briefly; add the steamed vegetables and cook until all are tender.

Toss with pasta, taste and add salt if necessary. Serve immediately with freshly grated parmesan cheese.
